The Tuskegee Airmen Memorial of the Greater Pittsburgh Region, located in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, is a monument dedicated to the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen. The memorial was dedicated in June of 1997 and was the first of its kind in the Pittsburgh area. It was designed by local artist, Kenneth Young, and is situated at the Sewickley Borough Park.
The memorial honors the African American pilots, navigators, and other personnel who served in the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African American military airmen in the United States armed forces. They achieved great successes during the war, including shooting down over a hundred enemy aircraft and destroying numerous targets on the ground.
The memorial features a full-scale replica of a P-51 Mustang fighter plane, which was the primary aircraft used by the Tuskegee Airmen. It also includes a bronze plaque that acknowledges the contributions of the Airmen, as well as a memorial stone donated by the United States Air Force.
