The Huntsville Botanical Garden in Huntsville, AL, is a 112-acre public garden that offers a variety of themed gardens and activities. The Garden is open year-round, seven days a week, and is home to over 11,000 plants and trees.

The Garden offers a wide variety of experiences, from educational programs to seasonal events, and everything in between. Some of the Garden’s key features include the Children’s Garden, a hands-on learning area where kids can explore and learn about plants and nature; the Nature Center, which includes a butterfly house, bird watching, and a live bee exhibit; and the Formal Garden, which includes a variety of themed gardens like the Japanese Garden, the Rose Garden, and the Herb Garden.

The Garden also offers a variety of seasonal events, including the annual Scarecrow Trail, a fall event featuring over 100 scarecrows and a pumpkin patch; and the holiday lights event, where the Garden is illuminated with over 1 million lights and holiday decorations.

The Garden also hosts a variety of educational programs, including lectures and workshops, and there are always volunteer opportunities available. The Garden also offers guided tours and a gift shop, where visitors can purchase plants and garden-related items.

Rockets Away! 2012 Student Launch Projects (NASA, Marshall, 4/22/12) Specially crafted rockets soared high into the skies April 22 at the 2011-12 NASA Student Launch Projects challenge. More than 500 students, representing 53 middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities in 28 states, launched rockets of their own design -- complete with working science payloads or engineering payloads -- at Bragg Farms in Toney, Ala. The students vied to see whose rocket could come closest to the 1-mile altitude goal and safely return its onboard science payload to Earth. Fifty-one teams took part, though two faced mechanical or technical issues and did not launch. Ten preliminary awards were presented, and the grand prize -- $5,000 from ATK Aerospace Group in Salt Lake City, Utah -- will be awarded May 18 after final post-flight analysis and review are complete. This is the fifth year ATK has sponsored Student Launch Projects. Great Moonbuggy Race, 1994 (NASA, Marshall, Archive, 1994) The NASA Great Moonbuggy Race is an annual event, held at the US Space and Rocket Center and organized by the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., in which high school and college students are challenged to design, build and race lightweight, human-powered moonbuggies that tackle many of the same engineering challenges dealt with by Apollo-era lunar rover developers at Marshall in the late 1960s. This photograph of the University of Alabama at Huntsville moonbuggy team was taken during the first running of the event at Redstone Arsenal in 1994 over the actual course where the original lunar roving vehicles were tested. TBEX Comes to NASA NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center hosted participants attending The Travel Blog Exchange conference for a tour of the center May 4, 2017. TBEX is the largest conference and networking event for travel bloggers, online travel journalists and social media enthusiasts. The group toured facilities that are building hardware for the Space Launch System, NASA’s new rocket, and also got visit the Payload Operations Integration Center which monitors science experiments for the International Space Station 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, 365-days a year. 2016 NASA in the Park More than 7,000 people attended NASA Marshall Space Center and Downtown Huntsville, Inc.’s third annual celebration of NASA and the community June 18. This year, the event moved to Huntsville’s Big Spring Park, becoming ‘NASA in the Park.’ The celebration featured fun for all ages, live music performed by Marshall team members and a special appearance by NASA astronaut Don Thomas.
