The Alabama Center of Military History (ACMH) is an organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the state’s unique military history. It is located in Huntsville, Alabama and is affiliated with the U.S. Army’s Aviation and Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal. The ACMH is dedicated to educating the public about the history of the U.S. Armed Forces in Alabama. It features a museum with exhibits focusing on the state’s military history from the Revolutionary War to the present day, as well as a library with a vast collection of books, maps, and photos related to the military.

The ACMH also offers a variety of educational programs, such as lectures, tours, and workshops. These programs are designed to engage the public with the state’s military history, and are open to all age groups. The ACMH also works with local schools and organizations to provide special programs and field trips. In addition, the ACMH hosts a number of special events throughout the year, such as the annual Veterans Day celebration and the annual Memorial Day service.

The ACMH is a valuable resource for the state of Alabama and its citizens. It is a place to honor the sacrifices of those who have served our country, and to learn more about the history of our state.

Rockets Away! 2012 Student Launch Projects (NASA, Marshall, 4/22/12) Specially crafted rockets soared high into the skies April 22 at the 2011-12 NASA Student Launch Projects challenge. More than 500 students, representing 53 middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities in 28 states, launched rockets of their own design -- complete with working science payloads or engineering payloads -- at Bragg Farms in Toney, Ala. The students vied to see whose rocket could come closest to the 1-mile altitude goal and safely return its onboard science payload to Earth. Fifty-one teams took part, though two faced mechanical or technical issues and did not launch. Ten preliminary awards were presented, and the grand prize -- $5,000 from ATK Aerospace Group in Salt Lake City, Utah -- will be awarded May 18 after final post-flight analysis and review are complete. LAGEOS I Laser Geodynamics Satellite (NASA, Marshall, Archive, 1976) The LAGEOS I, Laser Geodynamics Satellite, was launched on May 4,1976 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. The two-foot diameter, 900-pound satellite orbited the Earth from pole to pole and measured the movements of the Earth's surface relative to earthquakes, continental drift, and other geophysical phenomena. The mirrored surface of the satellite precisely reflected laser beams from ground stations for accurate ranging measurements. Scientists at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. came up with the idea for the satellite and built it at the Marshall Center. TBEX Comes to NASA NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center hosted participants attending The Travel Blog Exchange conference for a tour of the center May 4, 2017. TBEX is the largest conference and networking event for travel bloggers, online travel journalists and social media enthusiasts. The group toured facilities that are building hardware for the Space Launch System, NASA’s new rocket, and also got visit the Payload Operations Integration Center which monitors science experiments for the International Space Station 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, 365-days a year. 2016 NASA in the Park More than 7,000 people attended NASA Marshall Space Center and Downtown Huntsville, Inc.’s third annual celebration of NASA and the community June 18. Preparation for Pouring the Concrete Foundation of Test Stand 4697 A crane, at right, puts reinforcing steel in place in October 2014 to prepare for pouring the concrete foundation of Test Stand 4697 at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The structural test stand is one of two new stands under construction at Marshall that are critical to development of the Space Launch System. SLS will be the world's most powerful rocket for human space exploration, able to carry astronauts in the Orion spacecraft on deep-space missions, including the journey to Mars. The 85-foot-tall Test Stand 4697 will use hydraulic cylinders to subject the liquid oxygen tank and hardware of the massive SLS core stage to the same loads and stresses it will endure during a launch. The stand is rising in Marshall's West Test Area, where work is also underway on the 215-foot-tall towers of Test Stand 4693, which will conduct similar structural tests on the SLS core stage's liquid hydrogen tank. The structure at left in this photo is Test Stand 4699, which is used for Integrated Spacecraft and Payload Element Structural Tests. The 2200 Cubic-Yard Pour Crews and concrete pumper trucks work into the night pouring the foundation of Test Stand 4697 at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
