The Aircraft Engine Historical Society (AEHS) in Huntsville, AL is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and study of aircraft engine history. Founded in 1990 by a group of aviation enthusiasts, the society is committed to documenting the history of aircraft engines and related technologies, as well as preserving and restoring engines for public display.

The AEHS focuses on the development and engineering of piston and jet engines for both military and commercial aircraft. It has a collection of over two thousand artifacts related to the history of aviation. These include aircraft engine components, literature, photographs, and other related items. The AEHS also holds an annual convention, which features talks and presentations from experts in the field of aircraft engine history.

The AEHS has published several books and periodicals on aircraft engine history. This includes both technical and non-technical books and magazines, as well as a quarterly newsletter for members. The AEHS also works with other organizations to promote aircraft engine historical preservation, research, and education.

The AEHS is open to anyone interested in aircraft engine history, and membership is open to all. The society is run by volunteers and is funded by donations. It is an important resource for those interested in the history of aviation, and its work helps to ensure that the stories of aircraft engine development and innovation are not forgotten.

Rockets Away! 2012 Student Launch Projects (NASA, Marshall, 4/22/12) Specially crafted rockets soared high into the skies April 22 at the 2011-12 NASA Student Launch Projects challenge. More than 500 students, representing 53 middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities in 28 states, launched rockets of their own design -- complete with working science payloads or engineering payloads -- at Bragg Farms in Toney, Ala.

The students vied to see whose rocket could come closest to the 1-mile altitude goal and safely return its onboard science payload to Earth. Fifty-one teams took part, though two faced mechanical or technical issues and did not launch. Ten preliminary awards were presented, and the grand prize -- $5,000 from ATK Aerospace Group in Salt Lake City, Utah -- will be awarded May 18 after final post-flight analysis and review are complete. This is the fifth year ATK has sponsored Student Launch Projects.

Great Moonbuggy Race, 1994 (NASA, Marshall, Archive, 1994) The NASA Great Moonbuggy Race is an annual event, held at the US Space and Rocket Center and organized by the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., in which high school and college students are challenged to design, build and race lightweight, human-powered moonbuggies that tackle many of the same engineering challenges dealt with by Apollo-era lunar rover developers at Marshall in the late 1960s.

This photograph of the University of Alabama at Huntsville moonbuggy team was taken during the first running of the event at Redstone Arsenal in 1994 over the actual course where the original lunar roving vehicles were tested. The 20th Annual Great Moonbuggy Race will take place April 26-27 at the US Space and Rocket Center.

LAGEOS I Laser Geodynamics Satellite (NASA, Marshall, Archive, 1976) The LAGEOS I, Laser Geodynamics Satellite, was launched on May 4,1976 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. The two-foot diameter, 900-pound satellite orbited the Earth from pole to pole and measured the movements of the Earth's surface relative to earthquakes, continental drift, and other geophysical phenomena. The mirrored surface of the satellite precisely reflected laser beams
from ground stations for accurate ranging measurements. Scientists at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. came up with the idea for the satellite and built it at the Marshall Center.

TBEX Comes to NASA NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center hosted participants attending The Travel Blog Exchange conference for a tour of the center May 4, 2017. TBEX is the largest conference and networking event for travel bloggers, online travel journalists and social media enthusiasts. The group toured facilities that are building hardware for the Space Launch System, NASA’s new rocket, and also got visit the Payload Operations Integration Center which monitors science experiments for the International Space Station 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, 365-days a year. Groups also learned about cutting edge technologies like friction stir welding and 3-D printing, and visited with Marshall scientists that are gathering information about our sun, Earth and planets in our solar system.

The Marshall Room (NASA, Marshall, 03/19/13) NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center Director Patrick Scheuermann, participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 11 for the chamber's newly named Marshall Room.
