The North East Historical Society Inc. (NEHS) is a non-profit, volunteer organization founded in 1978 in North East, Pennsylvania. The society's mission is to promote and preserve the history of North East, Pennsylvania and its surrounding areas.

The society works to ensure that the area's historical artifacts, documents, photographs and other items are preserved. It also works to promote the area's heritage through education and the dissemination of information.

The NEHS holds monthly meetings, field trips and special events for its members and the public. It also holds an annual meeting in April, featuring a speaker from the local community.

The society is a member of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, the American Association for State and Local History, and the Pennsylvania State Historical and Museum Commission.

The society has collected and/or cataloged over 5,000 artifacts, including photographs, documents, books, maps and objects. The society holds and maintains an extensive research library and maintains an online database of the artifacts and documents.

The NEHS also has a gift shop, which sells a variety of items related to the history of the area, and a museum, which features displays and exhibits.

The North East Historical Society Inc. is an integral part of the North East community, preserving and promoting the history of the area.

June 5, 2022: Lawrie Bros. Furniture Company ghost sign, Commerce Street, Erie, Pennsylvania A ghost sign advertising the defunct Lawrie Bros. Furniture Company is seen on the rear of its former home, as seen from Commerce Street just south of East 12th Street in Erie, Pennsylvania. The sign is evidently of early 20th century vintage: brothers John and Robert Lawrie moved their eponymous furniture store to this location in 1908 from its previous home three blocks away in the historic Meyer Building, and it remained a going concern until 1947. Successor company Outlet Furniture lasted at least until the 1960s (the word "Outlet" in less durable paint remains faintly visible over the Lawrie's name at right).
