LACKAWANNA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Lackawanna Historical Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1858 to promote the preservation of the history and heritage of Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. The Society provides educational and cultural experiences through a variety of programs and activities including lectures, workshops, exhibits, field trips, and special events. Located in Scranton, the Society’s headquarters is housed in the historic Catlin House, a Victorian Revival style home built in 1871.

The Society’s Museum exhibits a range of artifacts and ephemera from the county’s past. It is home to a variety of collections including the Scranton Gas Light Collection, the Lackawanna Valley Railroad Collection, the Civil War Collection, and the city’s history collection. The Society also maintains a library with books, manuscripts, and photographs relating to the history of Lackawanna County.

The Lackawanna Historical Society is also a repository for over 25,000 photographs and works of art, many of which are featured in the Society’s annual calendar. The Society also produces a variety of publications including books, brochures, and newsletters. The Society’s website offers information on their activities, events, and collections. Additionally, the Society offers a variety of educational programs and youth activities throughout the year.
