Solar Eclipse 2017 - Beginning to End I really had doubts that this one was going to work out! The forecast was calling for a 60% chance of thunderstorms in Lancaster, PA. I had some trouble with thick clouds in the beginning but in the end - it all worked out. Each photo was made with a Canon 70D and a Canon 17-40 mm f/4L lens @ 36 mm. Swiss Pioneer Preservation Associates Inc is a non-profit organization based in Ephrata, Pennsylvania that aims to preserve and promote the Swiss-German heritage of the area. The group was founded in 1974 and has since been actively involved in research, restoration, and preservation of historic Swiss and German buildings, artifacts, and cultural traditions.

Fireflies and the Flower Patch A circumpolar star trail was imaged above a field of wildflowers in Lancaster, PA. The firefly activity this evening was amazing! I especially like the loop made by the firefly near the center of the image. The photo was made of 130 twenty second exposures taken with a Canon T6s and a Canon 8-15 mm f/4L lens. (ISO 400, 9mm, f/4.0) The images were stacked using StarStaX.

Autumn Moonrise thru the Covered Bridge Hunsecker’s Mill Bridge is a central Pennsylvania landmark and holds the record for the longest span of any covered bridge in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The wooden bridge was first built in 1848 and rebuilt in 1973 following hurricane damage. Using Stellarium and some good ole’ fashion trigonometry, the optimal time to photograph the rising full moon through the historic bridge was determined. If you look closely, you can see the familiar “V” pattern of Hyades as well as the Pleiades cluster near the top of the star field.

Moonset Among the Row of Sunflowers The setting moon is seen above a row of light painted sunflowers in this 20 second exposure.

A bright meteor along with the full &quot;flower&quot; moon are seen illuminating the Lancaster, PA countryside. The image was made of 415 twenty second exposures (about 2.5 hours). Each image was taken with a Canon T2i (f/5.0 with a Sigma 10-20 mm lens @ 14 mm / ISO 400) and stacked using StarStax. This must have been some meteor! I unfortunately must have been looking away but at least it was captured in the image.

The Fog Bank across the Stream A fog bank is seen engulfing a flowing stream in Lancaster, PA. Two stop (-2, 0, +2) HDR processing was done using Photomatix and light processing in Photoshop Elements. I originally wanted to photograph the thin crescent moon and Venus pairing; however, the clouds and fog had other plans! Despite missing the moon, I really like the way the photo turned out. Venus can be seen to the left of the tree in the middle of the photograph.
