The Downingtown Area Historical Society Inc., located in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, was established in 1964 with the mission of promoting awareness, understanding and appreciation of the history, culture and heritage of the Downingtown area. The Society is a non-profit, volunteer organization that collects and preserves artifacts, documents and photographs related to the history of Downingtown and the surrounding area.

The Society operates a museum which is located in the former Downingtown Middle School, built in 1875 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum contains a collection of artifacts and documents related to the town's history, and offers educational programs on various aspects of local history. Special exhibits, tours, lectures and other events are offered throughout the year.

The Society also maintains various historic sites in the area, including a restored historic house and a working blacksmith shop. In addition, the Society works to preserve local historic structures and landscapes through the Downingtown Area Historic Preservation Program, which provides grants to support the restoration of historic buildings in the area.

The Society is supported through membership, donations and grants. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and staffed by volunteers who work to promote and preserve the history and heritage of the Downingtown area.
