Stenton Museum, located in Philadelphia, PA, is a 18th century Georgian-style mansion and National Historic Landmark. Built in 1730, the house originally belonged to James Logan, an Irish-born Quaker and one of the most powerful and influential figures in colonial Pennsylvania. In 1796, the house was purchased by William Allen, an influential Philadelphia lawyer and justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, who added a two-story wing and made other modifications.

The house was passed down through the generations and eventually inherited by John and Anna Morris Widener in 1929. The Widener family made extensive renovations and opened the house as a museum to the public in 1943. Today, Stenton Museum offers visitors a glimpse into the life and times of the colonial period.

The museum is filled with period furniture and artifacts, including the private library of James Logan, an extensive collection of silver, porcelain and glassware, and a variety of paintings and prints. The house also contains an impressive collection of 18th century books, manuscripts and documents.

In addition to the museum, Stenton also hosts educational programs, lectures, and special events throughout the year. The museum also offers guided tours, as well as self-guided tours of the house and grounds. With its rich history, beautiful architecture and unique artifacts, Stenton Museum is a must-see destination for anyone interested in Philadelphia’s past.
