Perris / Perris Theater (# 0018) Opened in 1946, designed in an art-deco style but apparently modified at various times.  It’s now owned by the city for its historical value to downtown, but closed due to structural problems.

The Black History Month Committee of Riverside (BHMC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Riverside, California. Founded in 1997, the BHMC has been dedicated to recognizing the contributions of African Americans to the history, culture, and development of the city of Riverside. It is the mission of the BHMC to promote and recognize the achievements of African Americans and to increase public awareness of the history and culture of African Americans in the city.

The BHMC's activities include the annual Black History Month Flag Raising Ceremony, where the city of Riverside recognizes the importance of African American History and Culture. The BHMC also sponsors a variety of educational and cultural events throughout the year such as lectures, film screenings, and book readings. Additionally, the BHMC sponsors the awarding of scholarships to senior high school students from Riverside.

The BHMC is supported by a board of directors and a staff of volunteers. The board members are all Riverside citizens who are dedicated to the mission of the BHMC. The staff includes a paid Executive Director, a Program Manager, and an Administrative Assistant, who help oversee the day to day operations of the organization.

Through its various activities, the BHMC strives to create a greater sense of understanding and appreciation of African American history and culture in the Riverside community. The BHMC is an important part of the Riverside community and continues to be a leader in promoting African American history and culture.
