A Southern scene (4 photos in the set). An abandoned house in disrepair with two front doors--was this a duplex? Possibly it was a tenant shack for 2 families. One substantial post and what looks like 2 poles are supporting the porch roof. There's a pile of tree parts in front. All is standing in a setting of tobacco. The April 2023 Google street view shows the house still standing. Virgilina is a community in Halifax County, Virginia; its population in 2021 was about 120 people. The name results from the town being on the North Carolina state line--&quot;Virgi-&quot; and &quot;-lina&quot;

HFDF (Bastille Day!) Stilt-legged Fly - Taeniaptera trivittata (~10 mm)
The markings on the legs and waving behavior are thought to mimic the antennae of wasps and/or ants. This species is said to be an ant mimic.
