The Jackson County Historical Association (JCHA) is a non-profit organization that works to preserve and promote the history of Jackson County, North Carolina. Founded in 1949, the JCHA is dedicated to preserving the county’s past for future generations. The organization collects, preserves, and interprets artifacts, photographs, documents, and oral histories related to the county’s history.
In addition to preserving its past, the JCHA also works to educate the public about its history. The organization hosts lectures and workshops, as well as offers educational programs in local schools. It also maintains a research library and archives that are open to the public, and publishes a quarterly newsletter.
The JCHA headquarters is located in the historic courthouse in Sylva, NC. The building was built in 1881 and has served as the headquarters of the organization since 1949. The courthouse houses the JCHA’s collection of artifacts and documents, as well as its library and archives.
The JCHA is also actively involved in the local community. The organization sponsors a variety of events, including the annual Jackson County Heritage Festival and the Jackson County Library’s “Books and Bears” program. The JCHA also hosts a variety of volunteer and fundraising opportunities throughout the year.
