Grebes Horned Grebe - Podiceps auritus There were 200 plus at this site. A few were starting to do courtship dances. Some came close enough for me to hear their soft contact calls among each other. Pied-billed and Eared Grebe also in some frames.

One Horned Grebe is starting to molt into breeding plumage here. Pied-billed and Eared Grebe also in some frames.
One of these grebes... ...is not like the others. Eared Grebe - Podiceps nigricollis This bird was found maybe ten days ago at this site by Triangle birders, and seems to be hanging around with the 200+ Horned in this area. Eared is a bit of a rarity in this area.
