The African American Historical and Genealogical Society of Surry County in Mount Airy, NC is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving African American history and genealogy in Surry County. The organization was founded in 1991 to research and maintain records of African American ancestry and their historical contributions to the area. The Society works to promote and educate the community on the significance of African American families and their long-standing presence in Surry County.
The Society offers a variety of services and resources to researchers, including an extensive library of books and documents, access to an online database, and a research center. Additionally, they host a variety of events throughout the year, such as oral history projects and genealogical workshops. They also have a store, selling a variety of items such as books, t-shirts, and hats.
