The L Caroline Underwood Historical Museum in Penn Yan, NY is a living history museum that celebrates the life and legacy of local pioneer and educator L Caroline Underwood. The museum was established in 1977 to preserve the history of Yates County, NY and promote the life and work of L Caroline Underwood.
The museum consists of a collection of artifacts, documents, photographs, and other archival materials related to Underwood’s life and the history of Yates County. It houses a number of interactive exhibits, including a replica of the one-room schoolhouse where Underwood taught, and an exhibit of her personal belongings. Visitors can also explore the museum’s historic gardens, featuring a variety of heirloom plants.
In addition to its permanent exhibits, the L Caroline Underwood Historical Museum also offers educational programs and special events throughout the year.
