Historic Hudson Valley in Sleepy Hollow, NY is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history and culture of the region. Founded in 1951, the organization is best known for its restoration and interpretation of the original home of Washington Irving, author of the classic American tale of Sleepy Hollow. The organization also manages a number of other sites, including the Philipsburg Manor, Van Cortlandt Manor, Kykuit (the Rockefeller Estate), Sunnyside (Irving's home), and Union Church of Pocantico Hills.
At Philipsburg Manor, visitors can explore a 17th-century working farm and trading post that was once owned by the Philips family. Visitors can also take part in guided tours of the mansion, which features a kitchen, dining room, and parlor, as well as a library, a great hall, and a barn. The organization also offers a number of educational programs at this site, including programs on the history of slavery and its impact on the local community.
At Van Cortlandt Manor, visitors can explore a 300-year-old home that was once owned by the Van Cortlandt family. This site includes a number of buildings, including a stone house, a carriage house, and a bake house. Visitors can also take part in guided tours and attend various educational programs.
At Kykuit, visitors can explore the former home of the Rockefeller family, which includes a grand mansion, a coach barn, and a sculpture garden. The site also includes a number of galleries and a theater, in addition to various educational programs.
Sunnyside, Irving's home, offers guided tours of the author's home, as well as a number of educational programs.
