Bowne House, located in the historic town of Flushing, New York, is a fine example of 17th-century architecture. It was built in 1661 by John Bowne, a Quaker merchant who was well-known for his defense of religious freedom. The house is a two-story wooden structure with a gambrel roof and a central chimney. The original construction consisted of four rooms, including a kitchen and a parlor.

Over the years, the house underwent several modifications and additions. In the 18th century, a lean-to extension was added to the back of the house, and in the 19th century, a wing was added to the east side. The house also underwent major renovations in the early 20th century to restore its original appearance.

Today, Bowne House is a designated New York City Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It serves as a museum and cultural center, showcasing the history of Flushing and the Bowne family. Visitors can tour the house and learn about the Bowne family's role in the fight for religious freedom and their contributions to the community.
