The Vanderbilt Museum, also known as the Eagle's Nest, is an historic estate located in Centerport, New York. It was the home of William K. Vanderbilt II, a prominent member of the wealthy Vanderbilt family. The Vanderbilt Museum is situated on 43 acres of Long Island's Gold Coast, offering stunning views of Northport Bay. The museum is made up of several buildings, including the Vanderbilt mansion, a boathouse, a carriage house, and a conservatory.
The Vanderbilt Mansion is a 24-room, Mediterranean-style villa which was completed in 1912. It contains displays of Vanderbilt's collection of American and European furnishings, as well as his collections of fine art, tapestries, and decorative arts. The boathouse, which was built in 1910, was originally used by Vanderbilt to store his collection of boats and yachts. Today it houses the museum's collections of marine artifacts and maritime art. The Carriage House, built in 1902, is the museum's main entrance and contains an exhibit of antique carriages and other transportation artifacts. The Conservatory, built in 1906, is filled with lush tropical plants and features a koi pond and a waterfall.
