1812 Homestead is a historic homestead located in Willsboro, NY. The house, built in 1812, is a two-story, three bay, frame structure with a salt box roof. It is one of the earliest surviving houses in the area and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The house was built by Jesse and Mary (Smith) Hotchkiss, who arrived in Willsboro in 1800. The Hotchkiss family was among the first settlers in the area and the house was built as an extension of their existing log cabin. The house has remained in the family for over 200 years, and is still owned by Jesse and Mary's descendants.
The exterior of the house is in its original condition and is considered to be an excellent example of early 19th century architecture. The interior of the house features a unique combination of architectural styles, including Federal and Greek Revival influences. The house also contains original furniture, artifacts, and artwork from the Hotchkiss family.
The house and the surrounding land, which has remained largely unchanged since the Hotchkiss family arrived in the area, are now a part of the Hotchkiss Homestead Historic District. The district, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, also includes a number of outbuildings, including a log barn, a smokehouse, and a corn crib, all of which have remained in the family for over 200 years.
