COE Hall at Planting Fields in Oyster Bay, New York, is a stunning example of Georgian Revival architecture built in the early twentieth century. The building is located on the 409-acre arboretum and estate of William Robertson Coe and Mai Rogers Coe and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Constructed in 1916 and designed by the firm of Delano & Aldrich, the mansion is a two-story, brick structure with a gambrel roof and terraced entrance. Its exterior is decorated with dentil molding, quoins, and shutters. Inside, the house has a grand entrance hall, fourteen bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a dining room, kitchen, library, and grand ballroom.
The mansion is surrounded by beautiful gardens and grounds, which were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. The gardens include a formal terraced garden, a wildflower meadow, and a woodland garden. There are also several outdoor sculptures, including a bronze equestrian statue of William Coe. In addition to the gardens, the estate includes a greenhouse, a Victorian gatehouse, and a number of other outbuildings.
Today, COE Hall is used as a museum and event space and is open to the public. Visitors can explore the mansion and its grounds, as well as participate in educational programs and special events. The estate is also available for weddings, corporate events, and other private functions. COE Hall is an impressive example of early twentieth century architecture and a beautiful reminder of Oyster Bay's rich history.
