Gundalow Company is a non-profit organization located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The company’s mission is to preserve and promote the maritime heritage of the Piscataqua region through education, advocacy, and the stewardship of the region’s unique history and resources.
Gundalow Company’s core activities include building and operating a replica gundalow, a type of flat-bottomed cargo vessel that was used extensively in the Piscataqua region in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries, to transport goods and people along the region's rivers and estuaries. The replica gundalow, the Piscataqua, offers educational sailing trips and is available for charter.
In addition, Gundalow Company also offers educational programs, special events, and exhibits that promote the cultural, historical, and ecological importance of the Piscataqua region. They also promote environmental stewardship through their Gundalow Riverfront Park, which provides visitors with a public access point to the Piscataqua River.
Gundalow Company’s commitment to preserving and promoting the maritime heritage of the region has been recognized by the New Hampshire State Senate, which designated them as the official stewards of the Piscataqua region’s maritime history. In addition, Gundalow Company has been recognized nationally, having received the President’s Volunteer Service Award from the White House in 2012.
