GOVERNOR JOHN LANGDON HOUSE

The Governor John Langdon House is a historic house located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Built in 1784, it is one of the oldest surviving homes in New Hampshire and a National Historic Landmark. The house was built for Governor John Langdon and his family, who were prominent members of Portsmouth society.

The house is a two-and-a-half story clapboard structure, with a gambrel roof and a central chimney. The house has a symmetrical facade, with two large windows on either side of the front door. The original details of the house have been preserved, including the original door hardware, shutters, and windowpanes.

The interior of the house has been restored to its original style, with a formal parlor, dining room, and kitchen on the first floor, and bedrooms and a study on the second floor. The house also contains an extensive collection of 18th-century furnishings and decorative arts, such as furniture, paintings, and textiles.

The Governor John Langdon House is open to the public as a museum, and is operated by Historic New England. The house offers guided tours and educational programs, as well as special events and exhibits throughout the year.
