The Lincoln-Lancaster County Historical Society is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1955. The mission of the Society is to preserve and interpret the history of Lincoln and Lancaster County, Nebraska.
The Society is located in downtown Lincoln in the historic Haymarket District. It houses a collection of artifacts and archival material that relates to the history of Lincoln and Lancaster County. The Society also offers educational programs, lectures, and field trips to local historical sites.
The main exhibit room of the Society features artifacts from the early history of the area, including a model of the first Lincoln County Courthouse, a replica of the first Lincoln County jail and a display of Civil War artifacts. Other exhibits include a collection of quilts, sewing machines and farm implements, as well as a display of photographs, maps and newspapers.
The Society also operates the Lincoln-Lancaster County Historical Museum, which houses a variety of artifacts, photographs and documents related to the history of Lincoln and Lancaster County. The museum also offers special exhibits and a research library.
The Society is a member of the Nebraska State Historical Society, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and is a cooperating partner of the Nebraska State Historical Society. The Society also works with other local organizations to promote the preservation of Lincoln and Lancaster County's history.
