This building's windows are opaque during daylight hours. After dark, not so much. The wing on the left was originally a Congregational church; that on the right was Presbyterian. The Historic Elk Rapids Town Hall Association is a community organization located in Elk Rapids, Michigan. The association was founded in 1978 with the aim of preserving and restoring the historic Elk Rapids Town Hall, which was built in 1898.

The Town Hall is a two-story brick building that served as the hub of community activities for many years. It housed the Elk Rapids Area Historical Society, Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Elk Rapids District Library. The building was also used for town meetings, dances, and other cultural events.

In 1981, the Historic Elk Rapids Town Hall Association purchased the building from the village and began a major renovation project. The association raised funds to restore the exterior and interior of the building, including the original tin ceilings and woodwork. The building was also updated with modern amenities, such as air conditioning and handicap accessibility.

Today, the Historic Elk Rapids Town Hall Association continues to maintain and operate the building as a community center. It hosts a variety of events, including concerts, art shows, and theater productions. The Town Hall is also available for private rentals, such as weddings and corporate events.

The Clock Tower The Grand Traverse County Courthouse was visible from our room on the seventh floor of the Park Place Hotel. So I grabbed my camera and grabbed this photograph just after sunset last Thursday.
St. Joseph Catholic Church Last week Tuesday we headed up the Old Mission peninsula to visit the lighthouse. We mostly headed north on the east edge of the peninsula and returned on the western side. We drove by the old mission site and took a few pix at the lighthouse park. Along the way we found this gorgeous church. That set us on a mission to photograph some churches and crosses for my sister, who uses photos of crosses to focus her annual series of Lenten meditations on Facebook, which she calls "Journey to the Cross."
Porch and Fence Another photo from our wander around Elk Rapids last week. 'Twas the fence that first caught my attention, but that porch makes this image work.
Harbor Antiques Last Wednesday we wandered around Elk Rapids for a bit. Along the way we had a chat with a lady who may well have been president of the local Chamber of Commerce; she <i>really</i> wanted us to try one of the local restaurants.
Burial Ground A sculpture by northern Michigan sculptor William Allen at the Dennos Museum on the Northwestern Michigan College campus in Traverse City. The artist’s note beside the sculpture explains that the work was inspired by the discovery of a slave burial ground in Manhattan.
