The Friends of the Port Hope Railroad Depot is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the historic railroad depot and its place in the history of Port Hope, Michigan. The organization was formed in 2008 to raise funds to restore the depot, which had fallen into disrepair over the years.

The depot, built in 1854, was originally part of the Grand Trunk Railroad. It served as a vital part of the Port Hope community for over a century, before it was closed in 1957. The depot was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The Friends of the Port Hope Railroad Depot have worked tirelessly to raise funds through grants, donations, and fundraising activities. The organization has also been involved in a wide range of activities and events to promote the depot and its history. These include annual events such as the Depot Days Festival, an open house, and several educational programs.

The restoration of the depot is ongoing, with the organization currently focusing on the repair of the roof and cupola, painting, the installation of new windows and doors, and the refurbishment of the interior. The Friends of the Port Hope Railroad Depot hope that the depot can be restored to its former glory and serve as a reminder of the community’s rich railroad history.
