Pointe aux Barques Light is a historic lighthouse located in Port Hope, Michigan. It was first constructed in 1847 as a wooden tower, but was replaced in 1857 by the current tower made of brick and limestone. The tower stands 89 feet tall and its light can be seen up to 16 miles away.

The lighthouse was originally built to help guide ships through the unpredictable waters of Lake Huron and prevent shipwrecks along the rocky shoreline. It was manned by lighthouse keepers until 1934, when it was fully automated.

Today, Pointe aux Barques Light is open to the public for tours, and visitors can climb the spiral staircase to the top for a breathtaking view of Lake Huron and the surrounding area. The lighthouse also features a museum with exhibits on the history of the lighthouse and the surrounding area.

The site also includes a gift shop and picnic area for visitors to enjoy. The lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a popular tourist destination in Port Hope.

Campground Pic I'm not sure what that building does, but it's not an outhouse. Port Crescent State Park, near the tip of Michigan's thumb, on 8/25/2015. We remember this as a bad vacation, mostly because we didn't much like the campground and the weather was extremely windy and somewhat chilly for our entire stay. And we expected more hiking trails than we actually found. On the other hand, we found a couple decent restaurants and used the park as a base for exploring much of the thumb. 'Twasn't a total loss.
