BARRY COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Barry County Historical Society in Hastings, Michigan is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Barry County and its neighboring areas. Founded in 1984, the Society offers a variety of educational programs and events, as well as three historic sites and a museum.

The Society's museum is located in the historic city hall building and offers a wide range of permanent and temporary exhibits. Permanent exhibits include a permanent display of antique phonographs, early 20th century artifacts and photographs, and a collection of Native American artifacts. The Society also offers educational programs, such as lectures and workshops.

The Society's three historic sites are the Barry County Courthouse, the Hastings City Hall, and the Hastings Opera House. The Barry County Courthouse, built in 1887, is the oldest building in Hastings. The Hastings City Hall, built in 1896, is a former post office and police station. The Hastings Opera House was built in 1895 and is the oldest theater in Hastings.

The Society also offers a variety of special events, such as monthly educational programs, festivals, and exhibits. The Society also hosts an annual Summer Fair, which includes a variety of craft, food, and entertainment. The Barry County Historical Society is committed to preserving and sharing the history of Barry County and its neighboring areas.
