The History Preservation Association of Barry County is a non-profit organization based in Hastings, Michigan. Founded in 1972, the association's primary goal is to preserve and promote the history and cultural heritage of Barry County.

View from North-Country-Trail mile 1002 Stretching from North Dakota to New Hampshire the NCT is a mix of forest, prairie, dirt road, and paved shoulders to connect all the states it runs through. This view of springtime oak forest on rolling glacial terrain is just a couple miles north of Lowell and maybe 1/4 or 1/3 mile east of the Flat River. With no 2024 foliage yet, the blue skies pour sunlight through the canopy to the leafy forest floor, presenting a wall of woody columns in a rustic sort of temple. High above the Flat River 1.5 miles north of Lowell, MI The dam and mill operations down river have influenced the behavior of the Flat River for 150 or more years. So the broad floodplain partly visible on the left of the photo no longer regularly receives deposits of flooding silt. But its scale and broad expanse continue to impress hikers along this high embankment that the NCT (North Country Trail) follows, as indicated by the recurring blue blazes painted on trees and other trail markers every 50 or 100 yards like the one near the middle of this photo.
