RANCHO LOS CERRITOS HISTORIC SITE

Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site is a living museum located in Long Beach, California. The site is a restored 1844 adobe house and gardens that reflect the history and culture of Southern California during the Spanish, Mexican, and American periods.

The adobe house was built by John Temple on a land grant from the Mexican government. The house was later sold to the Bixby family and became a working cattle ranch. The house and gardens were donated to the City of Long Beach in 1955 and have been open to the public as a historic site since 1957.

The grounds contain a variety of gardens, including a formal rose garden, a kitchen garden, and a California native plant garden. There are also several historic buildings on the site, including a carriage house and a blacksmith shop.
