PARKS JANEWAY CARRIAGE HOUSE

The Parks Janeway Carriage House is a two-story, two-room, redwood-shingled building, located in Santa Ynez, California. The building is a contributing structure in the Santa Ynez Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

The Parks Janeway Carriage House was constructed circa 1895 by local carpenter, John Janeway, for Robert Parks, a prominent Santa Ynez Valley resident. The main level of the building is two rooms, one of which was used as a tack and feed room, while the other was used to store wagons, carriages, and other vehicles. The upper level of the building was used as a hayloft.

The carriage house is a simple structure, constructed with redwood siding, a wood-shingled gable roof, and a wood frame. It features a central entry porch, which is enclosed on three sides and includes a wood balustrade. The building is accessed via a set of double doors on the first floor, and a single door on the second floor.

The Parks Janeway Carriage House is an important part of the history of the Santa Ynez Valley, and serves as a reminder of the area’s agricultural heritage. The building is currently owned by the Santa Ynez Valley Historical Society, and is available for tours by appointment.
