OAKES AMES MEMORIAL HALL

NORTH EASTON, MA

Oakes Ames Memorial Hall is a historic building located in North Easton, Massachusetts. It was built in 1881 as a memorial to the Ames family of North Easton, who made their fortune in textiles and tools. The building was designed by architect Henry Hobson Richardson, who also designed such buildings as Trinity Church in Boston and the Marshall Field & Company Building in Chicago.

The hall is a two-story building constructed of red sandstone in Richardson’s Romanesque Revival style. It features a large central tower with four turrets at the corners and a hipped roof. The interior of the hall is quite ornate, with its walls and ceilings decorated with paintings and murals depicting scenes from the life of the Ames family.

The hall serves as a cultural center for the North Easton community and hosts many events throughout the year. It is home to the Easton Historical Society and has a small museum featuring artifacts from the Ames family. The hall is also used for musical and theatrical performances, lectures, and other events.

Oakes Ames Memorial Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a significant part of the history of North Easton. It is open to the public for tours and other events.
