Virtually every facet, from the figurehead of a Roman consul to the brightly colored stem with two projecting galleries, is of the highest quality. Annapolis - USNA Museum: Wooden Carousel Goat This is a rare and valuable carousel animal, made by the William F. Dentzel Company of Philadelohia, PA, in the period 1910-19. He id not make it for the Academy, but it nonetheless represents the USNA mascot affectionately named Bill. The Brigade purchased him in 1976, bur realizing it would be safer here, transferred it to the museum in 1978. Annapolis - USNA: Brigade Chapel - Farragut Window The Farragut Window, to the right of the altar in Brigade Chapel, shows Admiral David Farragut, in the rigging of the screw sloop-of-war USS Hartford, which he commanded to victory in the Civil War Battle of Mobile Bay in 1864 below the mezzanine, and an angel guiding Farragut to victory above the mezzanine. The Farragut Window was conceived of by the class of 1890-1892 and presented in 1914 to honor the man who was appointed a midshipman in the United States Navy at the age of nine and was the first admiral in the U.S. Navy. The window was designed by Frederick Wilson and fabricated by the Gorham Company. The United States Naval Academy Chapel, or the Brigade of Midshipmen Chapel, was constructed between 1904 and 1908 in the Beaux Arts style by Ernest Flagg. The original design featured a Greek cross plan, with four equal transepts and a capacity of 1,200. In 1938, renovations under architect Paul Philippe Cret, added a nave, which changed the shape to a Latin cross, and raised seating capacity to 2,500. The chapel's copper dome, a focal point of not only the building and campus, but the city, with a cupola raising 193 feet above the main altar. On January 26, 1913, the remains of John Paul Jones' were interred in the crypt the chapel inside a sarcophagus made of 21 short tons of black and white Italian marble with bronze fittings. Scotland-born John Paul Jones has long been heralded as the first Navy American War Hero, often called the "Father of the American Navy."
