The Montpelier-Henry Knox Museum in Thomaston, Maine is a historic house museum that tells the story of two families who were instrumental in the birth and growth of the United States. The house was built in 1794 by William King and has been home to several generations of the King, Knox and Montpelier families. The museum is comprised of five buildings: the King-Montpelier House, the Montpelier-Knox Library, the Montpelier-Knox Garden, the Montpelier-Knox Museum, and the Montpelier-Knox Education Center.

The King-Montpelier House is a Federal style home which features a variety of period furnishings, including items from the King, Knox, and Montpelier families. The house was the home of William King, the first Governor of Maine, and also served as the summer home of General Henry Knox, George Washington’s War Secretary. Visitors can explore the house, and learn about the history of the families and their contributions to the United States.

The Montpelier-Knox Library is a library that was founded in 1822 and donated to the museum in 2000. It contains a variety of books and documents related to the history of the King, Knox, and Montpelier families. The library is open to the public and provides a great opportunity to learn more about the families and their history.

The Montpelier-Knox Garden is a formal garden that was designed by the Knox family in the 19th century. It features a variety of plants and flowers, as well as a variety of statuary. The garden is a great place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the area.
