The Cotton Museum in Lake Providence, Louisiana is a small but impressive museum dedicated to telling the story of cotton in the Mississippi Delta region. The museum is housed in the former Lake Providence Cotton Compress and Cottonseed Oil Mill, which was constructed in 1891 and operated for nearly a century. It is the only museum of its kind in the United States.

The museum has displays that detail the history of cotton from its introduction to the region in the early 1800s to its current status as the most important crop in the region. Visitors can learn about the cultivation, harvesting, ginning, and marketing of cotton, and see artifacts such as antique farm tools, early cotton gin models, and historic photographs.

The museum also features a replica of a 19th century cotton warehouse, a replica of an early 20th century cotton-buying office, and a large collection of cottonseed bags and bales, as well as numerous exhibits of vintage clothing made from cotton.

The Cotton Museum is open Monday through Saturday, and admission is free. It is a great place to learn about the history of the cotton industry, and to explore the cultural and economic impact of cotton production in the Delta region.
