Bass Reeves Legacy Initiative Inc. (BRLI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Founded in 2019, BRLI is dedicated to honoring the legacy of Bass Reeves, an African American lawman and Deputy U.S. Marshal.
BRLI’s mission is to promote and preserve the legacy of Bass Reeves, to educate, inspire and empower the next generation, and to celebrate his story as a symbol of courage, justice, and leadership.
The organization works to promote the legacy of Bass Reeves through public outreach, community development and engagement, and research. Through public outreach, BRLI has provided educational programs, lectures and presentations to students, educators, and others interested in learning more about Bass Reeves.
The organization is also involved in community development, providing support to area businesses and organizations that are interested in honoring the legacy of Bass Reeves. Additionally, BRLI works in collaboration with researchers to document, record and preserve the legacy of Bass Reeves.
BRLI relies on the support of volunteers, sponsors and donors to continue to preserve the legacy of Bass Reeves. Through its efforts, BRLI seeks to ensure that Bass Reeves’ story and legacy of courage, justice and leadership will continue to inspire and empower future generations.
