The University of Kentucky (UK) is a public research university located in Lexington, Kentucky in the United States. It was founded in 1865 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky and was later renamed the University of Kentucky in 1916. The university has over 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in its various programs.

The campus covers more than 800 acres and features 16 colleges, including the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Gatton College of Business and Economics. The university has over 200 undergraduate majors and 90 graduate programs, with majors ranging from agriculture to engineering to the arts.

The university is known for its research in agriculture, engineering, and medicine. UK is home to several research centers and institutes, including the Markey Cancer Center, the Center for Applied Energy Research, and the Center for Advanced Materials.

The university has a rich athletic history and is a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The university's athletic teams, known as the Wildcats, have won numerous championships in basketball, football, and other sports. Lexington City National Bank Building, Main Street and Cheapside, Lexington, KY Built in 1904-1905, this Beaux Arts-style building was designed by Richards, McCarty and Bulford and built by George B. Long and the Lexington and Buffalo Company to house the Lexington City National Bank. The building features a red brick exterior, terra cotta cladding at the base and top, decorative sculptural reliefs, one-over-one windows, large window bays at the first floor entrance doors with decorative trim surrounds, rusticated piers at the first floor, arched windows at the seventh floor, a rooftop balustrade, a cornice with modillions and dentils, and engaged ionic columns and a suspended metal canopy at the main entrance door on Main Street. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and is a contributing structure in the Lexington Downtown Commercial Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
First National Bank and Trust Company Building (21c Museum Hotel), Main Street and Upper Street, Lexington, KY Built in 1913-1914, this Beaux Arts-style skyscraper was designed by McKim, Mead and White and built by the George A. Fuller Company for the Fayette National Bank, founded in 1870, and merged into the First National Bank and Trust Company of Lexington in 1931. The building features a buff brick exterior, limestone trim, a rusticated stone base, ionic columns at the entrance portico, arched windows at the fourteenth floor, one-over-one double-hung windows, cornices with dentils and modillions, and large bays at the first and second floors. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and is a contributing structure in the Lexington Downtown Commercial Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The building was rehabilitated in 2015-2016 as the 21c Museum Hotel.
Old Fayette County Courthouse, Main Street and Upper Street, Lexington, KY Built in 1898-1900, this Richardsonian Romanesque Revival-style building was designed by Lehman and Schmitt to serve as the Fayette County Courthouse, and is the fifth courthouse to serve Fayette County, replacing a previous courthouse, built in 1887, and destroyed by fire in 1897. The building underwent significant alterations in the 1960s and 1970s, destroying many original interior features, in order to accommodate the growing and changing needs of the Fayette County Courts. The building features a rough-hewn stone exterior, a hipped roof, a tall central tower with a semi-domed roof, wall dormers with clock faces, a lantern, arched window bays with one-over-one double-hung windows, and corner pinnacles, a cornice with modillions, decorative stone piers, arched panels above the third floor windows, gabled dormer, and entrances with arched transoms. The building is a contributing structure in the Lexington Downtown Commercial Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The building ceased to function as the Fayette County Courthouse upon the completion of the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse in 2001. The building today houses the Lexington Visitor Center and civic offices, after being rehabilitated in 2017-2018.
