The Owen County Historical Society is a non-profit organization located in Owenton, Kentucky. Founded in 1972, the society is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of Owen County for future generations. The society operates out of the Owen County Historical Museum, which is housed in a restored 19th-century building in downtown Owenton.

The museum features exhibits that showcase the rich history of the area, including displays on local industries such as tobacco farming and distilling, as well as exhibits on the Civil War and the Underground Railroad. The museum also houses a genealogy and research library, which contains a wealth of information on Owen County and its residents.

In addition to operating the museum, the Owen County Historical Society also hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including historical reenactments, craft fairs, and educational programs for children. The society also maintains several historic properties in the area, including the Polly Hawkins Craig House, which was built in 1807 and is believed to be the oldest brick house in the county.

The Owen County Historical Society is staffed entirely by volunteers and relies on donations from the community to support its operations. The society is committed to preserving the unique heritage of Owen County and ensuring that its history is accessible to all.
