The Kentucky Mansions Preservation Foundation, Inc. (KMPF) is a non-profit organization based in Lexington, Kentucky. It was founded in 2002 by local historians and preservationists, who wanted to protect and restore Kentucky’s historic mansions. KMPF has a mission to “preserve and promote Kentucky’s architectural heritage” through preservation and public outreach projects.

KMPF works to promote public awareness of Kentucky’s architectural and cultural history, and to protect and preserve the state’s historic mansions. The organization has been responsible for helping to restore and preserve a number of important architectural landmarks in the state, including Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate, and the Hunt-Morgan House.

KMPF also works to educate the public about the importance of historic preservation, and engages in public outreach activities to help spread awareness of the importance of saving and protecting these important pieces of Kentucky’s history. The organization also provides a variety of resources for those interested in learning more about Kentucky’s architectural heritage, such as a library of books, videos, and other materials.

KMPF is supported through membership dues, donations, grants, and other forms of fundraising. The organization also works with other local and state organizations to help preserve Kentucky’s historic mansions. Through its efforts, KMPF hopes to ensure that Kentucky’s architectural and cultural heritage is preserved for future generations.

Old Fayette County Courthouse, Main Street and Upper Street, Lexington, KY Built in 1898-1900, this Richardsonian Romanesque Revival-style building was designed by Lehman and Schmitt to serve as the Fayette County Courthouse, and is the fifth courthouse to serve Fayette County, replacing a previous courthouse, built in 1887, and destroyed by fire in 1897. The building underwent significant alterations in the 1960s and 1970s, destroying many original interior features, in order to accommodate the growing and changing needs of the Fayette County Courts. The building features a rough-hewn stone exterior, a hipped roof, a tall central tower with a semi-domed roof, wall dormers with clock faces, a lantern, arched window bays with one-over-one double-hung windows, and corner pinnacles, a cornice with modillions, decorative stone piers, arched panels above the third floor windows, gabled dormer, and entrances with arched transoms. The building is a contributing structure in the Lexington Downtown Commercial Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The building ceased to function as the Fayette County Courthouse upon the completion of the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse in 2001. The building today houses the Lexington Visitor Center and civic offices, after being rehabilitated in 2017-2018.
Lexington City National Bank Building, Main Street and Cheapside, Lexington, KY Built in 1904-1905, this Beaux Arts-style building was designed by Richards, McCarty and Bulford and built by George B. Long and the Lexington and Buffalo Company to house the Lexington City National Bank. The building features a red brick exterior, terra cotta cladding at the base and top, decorative sculptural reliefs, one-over-one windows, large window bays at the first floor entrance doors with decorative trim surrounds, rusticated piers at the first floor, arched windows at the seventh floor, a rooftop balustrade, a cornice with modillions and dentils, and engaged ionic columns and a suspended metal canopy at the main entrance door on Main Street. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and is a contributing structure in the Lexington Downtown Commercial Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
