The building features a rough-hewn stone exterior, a hipped roof, a tall central tower with a semi-domed roof, wall dormers with clock faces, a lantern, arched window bays with one-over-one double-hung windows, and corner pinnacles, a cornice with modillions, decorative stone piers, arched panels above the third floor windows, gabled dormer, and entrances with arched transoms. The building is a contributing structure in the Lexington Downtown Commercial Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The building ceased to function as the Fayette County Courthouse upon the completion of the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse in 2001.
