The Lincoln Heritage Museum in Lincoln, Illinois is a public museum dedicated to the legacy of President Abraham Lincoln and the history of Logan County. The museum was established in 1969 and is housed in the historic Abraham Lincoln Post Office and Courthouse, which was built in 1868 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The museum celebrates Lincoln's life and legacy with an extensive collection of artifacts, documents, and photographs related to his life, career, and death. Visitors can view artifacts such as Lincoln's writing desk, the first drafts of the Emancipation Proclamation, and the actual door to Ford's Theater where Lincoln was assassinated. The museum also displays a variety of Lincoln-related artifacts including a rare 19th-century coin featuring a portrait of Lincoln and a three-dimensional model of the White House that was constructed from Lincoln's own plans.
In addition to its extensive collection of artifacts and documents, the Lincoln Heritage Museum also hosts a variety of educational programs, lectures, and events related to Lincoln and Logan County. The museum also houses a research library with a wide selection of books and documents related to Lincoln and the Civil War.
The Lincoln Heritage Museum is open to the public Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-4pm. Admission is free, and the museum offers guided tours for a nominal fee.
