Project Exploration is a non-profit organization based in Chicago, IL dedicated to providing young people from underrepresented communities with engaging and meaningful science education experiences. Founded in 1999, Project Exploration has grown to serve thousands of students over two decades by providing hands-on learning experiences that spark curiosity and inspire a lifelong love of science.
Project Exploration is committed to its mission of creating lifelong science learners and has designed a holistic approach to engaging students in science that includes field trips, mentorship programs, summer camps, after school programs, and internships. Through these activities, Project Exploration has developed a culture of science exploration and achievement that is rooted in the belief that everyone, regardless of background, can become a successful scientist.
Project Exploration works in partnership with many local institutions, including the Field Museum, the University of Chicago, the Adler Planetarium, and the Shedd Aquarium, to create educational opportunities that are both engaging and accessible. Through these partnerships, Project Exploration has been able to create science-based experiences that are tailored to the specific interests of each student.
Project Exploration's work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2011 National Science Board Public Service Award. In addition to its programs in Chicago, Project Exploration also provides educational resources for teachers and students across the country.
