The Tazewell County Historic Places Society (TCHPS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and appreciation of the cultural and historical heritage of Tazewell County, Illinois. Established in 1985, the Society is located in the city of Pekin, Illinois. The mission of the TCHPS is to celebrate and promote the rich cultural and historic resources of the County and to preserve and protect these resources for future generations.
The Society works closely with the Tazewell County Historic Preservation Commission to identify and protect historic properties and sites throughout the County. The Society also works with local, state and federal agencies to promote the preservation of historic properties in the County.
The Society has a number of programs and activities for both adults and children. These include an annual Historic Places Tour and Symposium, lectures, tours of historic sites, and educational programs. The Society also sponsors a variety of special events, such as lectures, workshops, and other events related to local history and preservation.
In addition to its educational and preservation activities, the Society also sponsors a number of other activities, such as a preservation award program and an annual preservation project. These projects focus on preserving and restoring historic buildings, sites, and objects in the County. The Society also offers its members access to a wide range of resources related to history and preservation.
The TCHPS is a valuable resource for those interested in learning more about the County's history and preserving its historical sites. The Society's activities help to preserve the County's rich cultural and historic heritage for future generations.
