The Rock Run Country Historical Society is a volunteer-run non-profit organization located in Rock City, IL. Founded in 1980, the mission of the society is to preserve and promote the history and heritage of the Rock Run Country area of Stephenson County, Illinois and the surrounding region. The society is dedicated to preserving the unique history of the area, from its origins as a crossroads of cultures in the mid-19th century to its present-day thriving community.

The Society collects, preserves, and displays artifacts and documents related to the history of the area, ranging from the earliest settlers to the present day. It also maintains an archival collection of materials, including photographs, documents, and newspapers. The Society is an active part of the local community, organizing events such as lectures, field trips, and workshops.

The Society also sponsors a number of educational programs, including the Rock Run Country History Series, which features lectures and presentations on a variety of topics related to the history of the area. The Society also holds an annual History Fair and publishes a quarterly newsletter.

The Society is supported by the local community, as well as numerous grants, donations, and memberships. Its membership is open to anyone who is interested in the history of the area, and it welcomes volunteers who are willing to help in the preservation and promotion of the area's history and heritage.

World's Largest Camera at Monroe, WI in Nov. 2013 <b>From justsomething.com, 2013</b> Award winning photographer Dennis Manarchy designed the world largest film camera, a 35 ft long camera capable of producing 6 ft long negatives and 24 ft high high resolution prints. Dennis claims this camera can produce images with over 1.000 times more the detail than the best digital cameras on the market today. This unbelievable device will make a 20.000 miles journey across the US to document its diverse cultural heritages, in a project called ‘Butterflies & Buffalo’. “We have the ability to make a print that is two-stories tall, with detail that no one’s ever seen before. The crystal and the clarity of these things in these super large forms takes these people and gives them a certain level of dignity, but also puts it on an epic scale. You look into their eyes and you can feel something, and people look special. It’s a story that no one’s heard before.” Dennis says.

Beckman Mill Blue Moon - Last Frame Shot [IMG_3651] The Mill. The Pond. The Bridge. The Moon. The last frame. We decided we like this more. Driving home from Galena last night, we watched the rising full moon in front of us, and decided to try getting a shot of it rising over Beckman Mill. A mutual decision we made so suddenly that I almost missed the turn at County H! The trees made me doubt we'd get anything. I could see some orange sky hues, but no sign of the moon. Thankfully, Suzie was wandering around while I checked exposure settings, and said "come over here, by me, quick!" She was right. (Note: we're doing this in the dark, without dark adapted eyes, and right along the edge of the mill pond.) When the moon cleared these trees, the orange haze was gone, and the typical cold white glow of a full moon was all that remained. #teamwork #WPDObjects
