HERO STREET MOUMENT COMMITTEE

SILVIS, IL

The Hero Street Monument Committee in Silvis, IL is dedicated to preserving the history of the street that was home to many Mexican American soldiers who served in World War II and the Korean War. The committee was established in 2004 to honor the eight Mexican American soldiers from Hero Street, who lost their lives in service to their country. The committee works to ensure that the memory of these brave men is kept alive and to provide a lasting tribute to their ultimate sacrifice.

The monument, which was erected in 2006, is a granite and bronze sculpture of the eight soldiers, standing proudly in the center of a park in Silvis. The sculpture was created by well-known artist, Michael Hensley, and was funded in part by the local community. It stands as a reminder of the commitment and courage of these brave men and serves to inspire future generations of Americans.

Each year, the Hero Street Monument Committee holds a memorial service at the monument, to remember and honor the eight soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The event is attended by family members, veterans and community members, who come together to remember the brave men from Hero Street.

The Hero Street Monument Committee has also developed a series of educational programs to teach young people about the importance of honoring and remembering the sacrifices of our brave servicemen and women. Through these programs, the committee hopes to ensure that the legacy of Hero Street is never forgotten.
