The Prophetstown Area Historical Society is a non-profit organization that works to preserve and promote the history of the Prophetstown area. Located in Prophetstown, Illinois, the Society was established in 1967 and has been actively preserving the area’s history ever since.

The mission of the Society is to “preserve, protect and promote the history of the Prophetstown area, educate the public about the Prophetstown area’s past, and provide engaging activities and programs related to the area’s history.” The Society works to collect, preserve, and interpret the area’s material culture, including artifacts and documents. In addition, the Society offers educational programs, guided tours, and special events for the public.

The Society’s main facility is the historic Tampico Historical Museum, located in the former Tampico High School. This museum houses a variety of exhibits and displays, including a large collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents related to the history and culture of the Prophetstown area.

The Society is also involved in a number of preservation and restoration projects, including the restoration of the historic Prophetstown Opera House. The Society also manages the Tampico Historic District, which includes a number of historic buildings and sites in the Prophetstown area.

The Society is an active member of the Illinois State Historical Society and the Illinois Association of Museums. The Society also works with other local organizations, such as the Prophetstown Public Library and the Prophetstown Chamber of Commerce, to promote the area’s history.
