The Newberry Library is a privately funded independent research library located in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1887, the library is dedicated to the advancement of humanistic research and the collection and preservation of rare books, manuscripts, and other materials in numerous subject areas including Americana, European history, genealogy, linguistics, and music.

The library's collections contain more than 1.5 million books, including numerous rare and unique items, as well as over 10,000 periodicals and 10,000 manuscripts. The library also houses a number of special collections, including the D'Arcy McNickle Center for American Indian History, the Caxton Club, the G.K. Hall Collection, and the Newberry Consortium in American Indian Studies.

The library is open to the public and offers a number of educational and cultural programs, including lectures, workshops, exhibitions, tours, and more. The library also offers a variety of fellowships, grants, and awards to support scholarship in the humanities.
