The Verde Historical Society in Cottonwood, Arizona is an organization dedicated to preserving the history of the Verde Valley. Founded in 1971, the Society works to collect and preserve artifacts, photographs, documents, and oral histories related to the area. It also works to educate the community and visitors about the area’s rich history through events and programs.

The Society operates the Fort Verde State Historic Park, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The park is home to four of Arizona’s five original territorial forts, built to protect settlers and Apache Indians in the late 1800s. The park also offers a variety of events, such as living history demonstrations, school tours, and special programs.

The Society also operates the Camp Verde Historical Museum, which showcases artifacts, photographs, and documents related to the area’s history. The museum features artifacts from Native American cultures, early pioneers and settlers, and military personnel from the area. It also has a research library, which contains historical books and documents, as well as access to local genealogical records.

The Verde Historical Society works to share and preserve the history of the Verde Valley for the benefit of the local community and visitors. Its efforts help to ensure that the area’s unique history is remembered and honored for future generations.
