The Marengo Society for Historic Preservation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the history, heritage and cultural sites of Marengo, Illinois. Founded in 1976, the Society's mission is to preserve and protect the city's historical and cultural sites, landmarks and buildings, and to educate the public on the importance of preserving the city's past.
The Society works to protect the city's historic resources by nominating eligible sites to the National Register of Historic Places and the Illinois Register of Historic Places. It also works to preserve and protect the city's historic sites through site visits and research, and to promote the city's history and heritage through educational programs and events.
The Society also provides financial assistance to Marengo-area historic resources, such as the Marengo Historical Society Museum, the Marengo City Hall, the Marengo Public Library, and the Marengo Pioneer Cemetery. It also provides assistance to local organizations and businesses interested in preserving the city's heritage.
The Marengo Society for Historic Preservation also works to raise awareness of the city's heritage by hosting annual events such as Marengo’s Heritage Day and Marengo’s Heritage Walk. The Society also sponsors the Marengo Historic Preservation Awards and the Marengo Historic Preservation Student Awards.
