The Wyoming big sagebrush steppe in this area is highly perturbed and mostly removed because of somewhat recent history of fire and overgrazing. Regardless, medusahead is only one of many introduced plants in this area (along with Japanese brome and intermediate wheatgrass) that coexists with native plant species (including Aristida purpurea longiseta and Elymus elymoides).
