Friends of Minidoka Internment National Monument (FMINM) is a volunteer organization that works to promote Minidoka Internment National Monument in Twin Falls, Idaho. FMINM works to preserve the history of the Japanese American incarceration experience that occurred during World War II. The organization works to bring awareness to the site, promote education and research, and provide opportunities for public engagement.
FMINM was founded in 2016, shortly after the designation of the national monument. The organization works in partnership with the National Park Service to advance the mission of the monument, which is to preserve and interpret the history of the Japanese American experience at Minidoka during World War II. In addition, the organization works to foster cultural exchange, promote understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures, and provide access to the history of the internment camp.
FMINM hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including educational programs, lectures, and guided tours of the site. The organization also works to maintain and enhance the monument by leading projects to improve visitor access, such as trail repairs and the installation of interpretive signage.
FMINM is a member of the National Park Foundation and works to raise funds to support the preservation and interpretation of the Minidoka Internment National Monument. The organization also provides grants and scholarships to individuals and organizations that support education and research related to the internment camp.
